Greetings

Friday 12 Sept 08

Good evening all,

Well it is almost dark with us…the sun now sets at 7.55 and it only breaks there at 6.20 in the morning, Summer was just an illusion and autumn is here , the leaves are falling and there is a definite nip in the air.

We had the fire going now for the last few nights in order to warm up the house..more to take the chill out …at 15 degrees in the sun when it shines.

Although the island still presents with green every-where..the change of colour in the leaves brings a new dimension of beauty. The roses have been moved into the ground in the garden out of their pots…and we hope that it will be for the better. A unseen insect has devoured every leave and only the skeleton of the leaf is left..the roses planted against the new wall in comparison are healthy and full of flowers.

We still pick strawberries on a daily base and the raspberries were quite good. We will get the ‘chicks’ of the strawberries into little pots for the winter and hope to have about 100 strawberry plants for next year.

Work is good and we are very busy…the nun that were so very sick..she fell down the staircase on the last day of accreditation on 25th July and she also suffered from bowel cancer died yesterday morning..I nursed her for the last 4 nights and knew when I left yesterday that it will only be minutes. I do not partake in the death rituals of the Catholics and said a prayer for her while she was still clear of mind and there I leave it…funerals are not for me.

The weather has been fair to mild more rain than sun shine but with the tail ends of all the hurricanes passing by we are bound to be affected.

I have now 5 nights off and it will be like a holiday… we have lots of little things planned mainly to fix the garden for the winter on hand.

Joy I so hope that there fell some rain with you and that the water restriction will soon be lifted. Enjoy the view from the deck!
