Greetings from Ireland

27 December 2008

Good day to all far and wide, family and friends!

This then the last letter from Ireland, cocooned into the most brilliant sunshine ever, crisp and cold, 3 degrees but not a breeze, dry and ever so beautiful, for 2008!

Many an hour has been spent on playing scrabble and feeding the birds. I can hear Julie Andrews in my mind, singing…”Feed the birds…. “ Can you hear it? Hope so..they are the best fed birds in Ireland if not in Europe…With no cat around they have flocked to the garden where there are ever such juicy things to gobble up! Bread crumbs, special bird seed balls and as always there basic feed of dog food!

The big bone from the leg of lamb has been picked up by one of the jackdaws high up into the sky..we just saw him struggle to hold on a belated Christmas gift for his family!

We should be champions at playing scrabble but sometimes very frustrating, when the only letters you have on your tray consists of 4 i’s,2 w’s and u, throwing in costs too much in points so you persevere and play on. Sometimes it goes too well and you produce 2 x 7 letter words in one game…it keeps the brain active, if nothing else.

I spend an hour on the treadmill every day in the hope to get rid of the trifle, Christmas pudding, whipped cream and leg of lamb…and hope for a fast result. Quick on, quick off, they say!

Barry is for-ever busy bringing in the turf, it feels like tons of it and keeps him fit and lean but I am not aloud to venture into the turf shed to help and therefore have to suffer in a different way.

The days are getting longer and that is a blessing! My Amaryllis, red and white is now both open and so are my 11 orchid flowers….right on time it was, for Christmas morning!

We hope to go up North next week to go and look at all the things the crowds have been after…..shopping there has been a bonus. We could not care as we do not partake in Christmas shopping as such, presents and whatever…with just the 2 of us …everything stays very simple!!!therefore the visit after Christmas!

We do miss our cat…have to get used to the idea that he is not there anymore!

Birthday Wishes are directed to Anke, Br. Mendel’s wife, in SA hope that you will experience good health and wonderful surprises all through the coming year!

To all we pray that the New Year will be one of blessings from above, and a closer walk with our God and Saviour!!! Love, patience, forgiveness, understanding, perseverance, slow to anger and hope to fill your lives!

Warm greetings

From a cold, cloudless, sun filled Ireland

Barry & Christina( Stien..etc)
